Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, transport associations and BW-Tarif GmbH sign an agreement to implement the Baden-Württemberg fare system

It is not yet possible to travel through all 22 transport networks in Baden-Württemberg with just one ticket. The Baden-Württemberg fare system (BW fare system) which will be launched on 9 December 2018 will change this.

Anyone travelling through the federal state by regional train will be able to continue their journey by bus and train to their destination without having to purchase an additional ticket. This will make public transport in the south-west of Germany easier and more attractive for all users. As from 2021, the BW fare system aims to allow passengers to travel from any public transport station to any other station in the federal state with just one ticket (including season tickets).

The central element of the BW fare system, which covers the entire network, is the ‘contract for connection mobility’ which was signed on 12 July 2018 in Stuttgart City Hall in the presence of Transport Minister Winfried Hermann. The company BW-Tarif GmbH is responsible for the introduction and further development of the BW fare system. This company is owned by the nine railway companies operating in Baden-Württemberg, Verband Region Stuttgart (VRS) and the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Under the agreement now signed, the 22 transport associations in Baden-Württemberg are included in the BW fare system.

Since the project was launched in 2013, civity has played a key role in the development of the BW fare system, both in terms of project management and content. “We are pleased that this complex project, which all the stakeholders have accompanied with great commitment, is now on the home stretch and that we are a big step closer to successfully launching the BW fare system,” says Dr. Arne Beck, the partner responsible for the BW fare system project at civity.
