MVV launches its SWIPE+RIDE electronic fare pilot
Since 13 October 2020, Munich Transport and Tariff Union (MVV) has become one of the growing number of associations operating a pilot electronic fare system. Together with its partners, MVV is launching the two-year pilot operation of its SWIPE + RIDE project.
The electronic fare system was developed primarily for customers who only travel occasionally by bus and train in the MVV territory and is now being tested by registered customers. For pilot customers, the ‘agony of choosing the right ticket’ before starting a journey has now become a thing of the past, because the electronic fare system and new technology have simplified ticket purchases.
Almost 3,600 pilot customers already signed up in the first two weeks alone, completing more than 3,700 journeys. Interest is particularly high in Bavaria’s capital city.
civity has been supporting MVV in overall project management and communication strategy since autumn 2019. The project will run until 2022.
We would like to congratulate all the project partners (MVG – Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft, Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH, S-Bahn Munich, the City of Munich, and associated districts of the MVV) as well as the participating service providers (e.g. FAIRTIQ, mobilité, Proxenos, rms) and we look forward to more exciting years in the project team.
