civity presents the results of the Baden-Württemberg public passenger transport report at the kick-off meeting of the ‘Future Commission on the 2030 Public Passenger Transport Strategy’

The federal state of Baden-Württemberg has set itself the ambitious goal of doubling demand for public passenger transport by 2030. In addition to the measures already in place to boost passenger numbers, the ‘2020 Public Passenger Transport Strategy’ is to be developed and coordinated together with specialists and the expert public over the next two years. The federal state government has now set up a Future Commission of experts.

Future Commission to develop the ‘2030 Public Passenger Transport Strategy’

By the end of 2020, the around 20 members of the Future Commission will have drafted the foundation for the Public Passenger Transport Strategy based on ten fields of action. The expert public in the administrative districts will then be called upon to shape the development of the operational public passenger transport strategy. Then, by mid-2022, the stakeholders in the districts and towns will become closely involved through comprehensive dialogue. “The Public Passenger Transport Strategy will only succeed if we all work together,” emphasizes Transport Minister Winfried Hermann at the kick-off meeting of the Commission on 16 July 2020 in Stuttgart. The fields of action include, for instance, offering, fares and sales, digitalisation, intermodality as well as push factors. The Ministry of Transport will publish the finalised 2030 Public Passenger Transport Strategy in summer 2021 together with the specific measures for each field of action.

Another major project in Baden-Württemberg

civity Management Consultants together with Zebralog and SMA will accompany this two-year strategy process. Working on behalf of the Ministry of Transport, civity already prepared a detailed status report on public transport in Baden-Württemberg which Stefan Weigele, founding partner of civity, presented at the opening event of the Future Commission. “In addition to the many years working together with BW-Tarif GmbH and the Ministry of Transport in Baden-Württemberg preparing and implementing the bwtarif fare system, this is another major strategic project in southwest Germany that we have the pleasure of accompanying. As a native of Ravensburg, I am particularly thrilled about this,” says Stefan Weigele.
