Which factors determine the success of fare systems in public transport?

Results of a nationwide study of fare systems in Germany

published in: Der Nahverkehr 09/2007

Due to declining public funds for public transport systems the design of fare systems becomes more and more important. Together with the quality research institute Quotas BSL Management Consultants has undertaken a market survey on the key success factors for fare systems in public transport. Therfore more than 2,500 users and non-users from eleven transportation assiciations were interviewed. The study shows that beside the design of the fare system the communication is an essential success factor that needs to be improved substantially at several transportation associations.
