Full speed ahead – on the road to electrification with Charging as a Service

The topic of decarbonization plays a key role in the mobility market and is driven not only by legal requirements but also by changing customer demands and long-term strategies.

In this context, a key player in the Swiss transport and logistics market has also set itself the goal of decarbonization by 2040, and in some areas of operation even already by 2035. The electrification of the vehicle fleet plays a key role in this. This affects over 10,000 vehicles across the company and therefore presents the company with a major challenge. In order to meet this challenge, Ramboll Management Consulting | civity supported the company in setting up its own Charging as a Service (CaaS) division.

As part of a 10-month project, we developed a target operating model together with the client using a workshop-based approach in the sprint logic of agile project management. This includes a process and organizational structure with clear processes and responsibilities that fit the company. Using a scenario-based business case, we jointly verified the economic design of the Charging as a Service model and finally developed a pricing model and a results-oriented go-to-market strategy, taking into account the (tax) legal requirements.

The aim of the new business division is to provide centralized and long-term support for the expansion and operation of the charging infrastructure. With the defined target operating model, the Swiss transport and logistics company has come one step closer to this goal and can thus make a valuable contribution to the further decarbonization of the mobility market.
