Pharmaceutical usage in the context of demographic change
civity predicts for the BDEW the development of medicinal usage in Germany until 2045. The study highlights the problematic consequences for the aquatic environment and provides recommendation for counteractive measures.
Water resources suffer from contamination of numerous human-caused trace elements. One of the areas of concern is medication residues. The medicinal drug consumption in Germany increased continuously in recent years. Against the background of the demographic change civity examines the consequences of the ageing process of the society and a growing per capita consumption. Our forecast model predicts a rapid growth of medicinal usage up to 40 percent by 2045. The study develops recommendations for preventive countermeasures for manufacturers, authorities, health facilities and consumers.
